Free, fun events in Vancouver are few and far between, especially in the Summertime. That’s why we love hosting beach cleans on Vancouver’s famous beaches as an enjoyable, gratifying weekend activity for the whole family. Hundreds of trusty Vancouver citizens join us on a Saturday morning armed with gloves and pickers, and comb through our golden sands in search of hidden trash treasures.

Want to join an upcoming beach clean in Vancouver? Here’s what you need to know:

  • We hold 4 -5 large-scale beach cleanups a year on Vancouver’s most popular beaches: Wreck Beach, Jericho Beach, Kitsilano Beach and English Bay Beach

  • All of our events are family-friendly, free and open to the public

  • We post information on the next clean on our social media channels and website events page

  • Our cleans are usually held on a Saturday morning from 11am – 1pm

  • We partner with local sustainable businesses and organizations for our events, offering competition prizes and discounts

Why are community beach cleans so important?
Sometimes, doing a beach clean on your own can feel like deciding what movie to watch on Netflix: it’s an overwhelming task and you need more help and support. So we abide by strength in numbers. Harnessing the power of up to 700 cleanup volunteers, we have gathered 8250 cigarette butts in one hour on Kitsilano Beach. What’s more, when trash is found and piled up collectively, it’s more efficient to sort and recycle everything together – for us and the recycling facilities!

BEACH CLEAN VOLUNTEER FAQS

Are beach cleans child-friendly? Yes – our cleanups are family-friendly and open to all ages. We highly recommend that children wear gloves during our beach cleans (if possible, bring your own – most of the gloves we provide are adult-sized).

Do you provide gloves and pickers? We supply the buckets, gloves, pickers, and tongs, however, there is a tendency for those items to run low at busier events. It’s always a good idea to bring your own in the case our supply runs short.

Is the event free to join? Yes! All of our beach cleans are free, all you have to do is sign-up to the event on our Eventbrite page and keep the ticket on your phone for us to scan you in on the day.

Are food and drink supplied? We often have generous local partners who provide snacks and/or beverages at our cleans, but we can’t always guarantee this. If it’s a hot summer’s day, be sure to bring a water bottle and some snacks to see you through all that hard foraging.

Can I bring my pet? Yes! As animal lovers, we encourage you to bring your four-legged friends to join in the clean, but ask that your dog remain on leash if they have temperamental behaviour.
