Beach Clean Up - Locarno Beach

RSVP on eventbrite to let us know you’re joining us for this special Halloween clean.

JOIN US: Join Surfrider Vancouver for our beach clean up at Locarno Beach. Rain or shine (unless it’s a heavy downpour) this will be a fun time to clean up and sort through the waste we all pick up. We will have prizes - most cigarette butts collected; weirdest/interesting object AND for best dressed costume (Adult + Kid) by loudest cheer/majority vote.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct 14 from 9:30am – 12:00pm

WHERE TO MEET: Look for the blue Surfrider tent/flag on the beach, just north of the Locarno Beach Sasamat Parking Lot access. Sasamat St, Vancouver, BC V6R 1B7

SORTING VOLUNTEERS: In addition to picking up litter, we also need volunteers to help sort the items collected into different recycling categories. When registering, please indicate if you are interested in sorting litter instead of picking it up.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: We will provide reusable gloves, buckets and pickers – however, we welcome you to bring your own as there is a limited supply. Please wear closed toe shoes such as hiking boots with either high socks or pants to cover your shins.

POST-CLEANUP SOCIAL: Stay tuned, the after beach clean social will be revealed at the clean up! All free; pay what you can and by donation!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST – SAFETY FIRST: Please do not collect heavy, sharp or hazardous objects. Instead, mark the location and inform a Surfrider volunteer for safe removal. Always use a stick or trash picker when sifting to avoid sharp objects.

*Please note that there are stairs down to the beach. If you do not wish to travel up and down the stairs, there are other ways to help such as sorting litter or counting cigarette butts.

Don’t forget to share your beach cleanup photos using #surfridervan

We hope to see you there!

Surfrider Vancouver Happy Hour + Public Meet Up

RSVP to let us know you’ll be shucking oysters with us!

The weather is getting warmer and we have exciting news! We may not be able to just walk out into the ocean for a paddle (but the cold dips are plenty this time a year), but we can walk out to a great oyster house for happy hour :)

Our next Surfrider social + public meetup is happening Tuesday, May 23 at Smitty's Oyster House on Main Street in Vancouver, from 5:15pm - 7:30pm. Reservations are under Surfrider / JY.

This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers, members of our Executive Committee, build our community and learn about the awesome projects we have on the go, and you might want to get involved! Oh, and of course there is happy hour - https://smittysoysterhousemainstreet.com/

BONUS: May 23 is a special day for Surfrider Canada + USA network wide. We will have a special announcement too for all our friends in North America!

RSVP to let us know we’ll be shucking oysters together!
