Spanish Banks Clean up + Community BBQ with surfrider + friends

Show up for check-in at 9:30am, clean the beach and join us for a fun day at Spanish Banks with the Surfrider crew. We welcome all to join our community BBQ that will start at 12:30pm, all by donation!
Any proceeds from the donations we receive this day will go directly to Surfrider Vancouver so that we can continue to fund our volunteer-led programs.
Our cleanups are a fun and easy way to get involved and give back. Plus, our cigarette butt orca will also be in attendance, and we encourage you to learn more about our Hold On To Your Butt program.
WHEN: Saturday, August 12 from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
WHERE TO MEET: Look for the blue Surfrider tent. We will be just west of the Spanish Banks Parking Lot B on the grass as per the map attached.
THE DAY'S ACTIVITIES:
9:30am-9:45am: Check in at our tent
COME TO OUR TENT AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHECKED IN
9:45AM: BEACH CLEAN UP WELCOME SPEECH + SAFETY ORIENTATION WITH SURFRIDER AND FRIENDS
10AM-11:30AM: BEACH CLEAN; Coffee generously donated by JJ Bean. Bring your own mug!
Due to popular demand, please bring your own equipment, as we will have enough buckets and sharing of pickers for 50-100 people on a first come first serve basis. We encourage you to double up and share :) OR bring your own! What keeps our beach clean ups unique is that we spend time sorting through all the trash/litter you collect, and we make sure we get you involved - so there will be a sorting station on site as well.
SORTING VOLUNTEERS: In addition to picking up litter, we also need volunteers to help sort the items collected into different recycling categories. When registering, please indicate if you are interested in sorting litter instead of picking it up.
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: Bring your own mug for JJ Bean coffee! We will provide reusable gloves, buckets and pickers – however, we welcome you to bring your own as there is a limited supply. Please wear closed toe shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST – SAFETY FIRST: Please do not collect heavy, sharp or hazardous objects. Instead, inform a Surfrider volunteer of the location for safe removal. Always use a stick or trash picker when sifting to avoid sharp objects.
11:30AM-12:30 PM: Free outdoor yoga
Free outdoor yoga for all those hosted by our friends the Mat Collective. Please make sure to register so we can gauge numbers as well!
*All you need to bring is your own mat and reusable water bottle!

BBQ hot dogs for both our meat eaters and veggie eaters. All by donation. Pay what you can.
